HOW TO TIE A MECATE/HACKAMORE REINS
ON YOUR RAWHIDE BOSAL
First and foremost - The pictures and instructions included on this page are from an old magazine article written by a John C. Conrad. Neither Congress Leather, it's owners or employees claim any rights to this information - all rights are those of John C. Conrad. We are providing this information for reference only.

Included Magazine Editor's Note: "Mr. Conrad, expert rawhide craftsman of the old California school, would be the first man to admit that many and varied are the ways of attaching reins to the rawhide nose band (bosal). Here he has carefully detailed a method that to him is the most perfect---easiest to tie, easiest to adjust, the safest and strongest and most important (when hanging properly on your pony's head) is always balanced. Balance meaning that the weight of the reins or the lead rope is so perfectly centered that no one side pressure is possible."

What is left slip under the two wraps above the reins, Fig. G back side, bringing it back over top and slipping it under the front two wraps, Fig. H, pulling it all tight.
